KXNG Crooked, O.C., Rome Streetz & More Join Kut One’s Sophomore Compilation LP, ‘Live Wires 2’

Melbourne, Australia producer/turntablist Kut One follows up last year’s acclaimed Live Wires compilation with a sequel that’s brimming with incredible guest emcees and raw production to match. While he chose to work with some similar artists to deliver a sound that’s consistent with the first release, Kut One also pushed himself as a producer. He decided to try new things that would help to create a more cohesive project, without losing his signature hard-hitting approach.

“I veered away from only using the MPC and samples,” Kut says. “This time around, I used my own instrumentation with only a few samples.” The result is a rich, textured sound that you can hear throughout Live Wires 2’s 13 tracks, which also boast hard-hitting percussion and deep bass.

The compilation grabs your ear immediately with the opening track, “Guerilla Season,” a smoky and head-nodding burner featuring a standout performance from Ghanian spitter Recognize Ali. From there, Kut keeps the momentum going strong with the snarling single “Get Mine Regardless,” a posse cut that features Jamal Gasol, Rome Streetz, and Saipher Soze. Other standouts include “Make a Dolla,” a straight-up banger with Sadat X; and the more melodic “Take a Picture,” a lyrically sharp collaboration with KXNG Crooked.

While Kut points to all of those tracks—and others—as his favorites on the record, there’s something extra special about “Raised By Wolves” with O.C. As Kut tells it, working with the living Brooklyn legend was “nothing short of a blessing.”

“I’ve always spun his acapellas over my beats on mixtapes and at clubs, so having him record to one of my original beats? Definitely a bucket list moment.”

Live Wires 2 is available now through all major DSPs and CD via Bandcamp through Chopping Block Records.
