After a couple hard-hitting promo leaks in what has been one of the most turbulent months in modern history, Vanderslice finally unveils his Trendsetter EP as week two of the planetary quarantine comes to a close. So while on the one hand we’re stuck at home as we play our part to flatten the curve, we’re blessed with some absolute heat from the Phoenixville beatsmith on the other. So for anyone that needed that extra bit of motivation to take a break from binge watching Tiger King or season 3 of Ozark, Slice has you covered.
Conceptually, Vanderslice pays homage to his favorite production library, turning the various loops and sounds into unabashed bangers. From there, Slice recruits the likes of G Perico, Vic Spencer, Ty Farris, Daniel Son and Capo, to bring things to a boil.
The project moves quick at just ten minutes, but what Trendsetter lacks in time, it makes up for in quality, no-frills rap. To boot, Slice lets the leash off instrumentals which can be found on the flipside of the vinyl, and bundled into the album download via Bandcamp. The instrumentals could also be found through your preferred digital retailer or streaming platform, albeit offered separately.
“It’s mission critical to maintain my identity. Our sound is less is more and we don’t follow the trends, we’re setting the trend.”
Trendsetter is available now via Coalmine Records in partnership with Slice’s Stones Faux imprint. The seven track EP can be supported through all major DSPs and on vinyl as a general release in classic black. A limited hot pink variant can be purchased through Vanderslice’s Bandcamp page and our online store with various bundles available, including slipmats, hoodies, and other merch.
