Supreme Cerebral & D.Mar are ‘Soul Trained’ On New Album

Supreme Cerebral has dropped Soul Trained, which his first full length project of the yearThe 14 tracks were fully produced by D.Mar, while the physical version has an additional 2 bonus tracks. As you may be able to guess by the title, the soundscapes are soulful canvases to the emcee’s advanced verbal weaponry. Contributors to the album include Planet AsiaInDJnous, SmooVthEloh KushDJ EyeballHus KingpinRalphiie ReeseDefinite MassRecognize AliIll ConsciousPiff {PCH}TriState and Banish Habitual. For this release SC maintained the sharp wordplay he’s always been known for, but was also able to incorporate a smoother pen game on certain joints.

Going into the standout tracks, we start off with “Kings Throne” which featured strong bars off the bat and a fire beat switch. SC continued to lyrically annihilate on “Change” where he spits references ranging from designer clothing brands to movie characters and titles. “Underground Kings” was the rightful track title, which included SmooVth and Eloh Kush joining SC, along with cuts by DJ Eyeball. Ladies will enjoy “Indecent Proposal” which shows a more sensual side of SC. “Basic Instinct” is about a wicked, material driven woman who will seduce you with her looks, only to use and fool you to the point where you won’t trust the next one.

SC proves why he stands out, with his intricate wordplay and patterns on “What I’ma Talk About”. Another personal favorite of mine was “On The Corner“, as Recognize Ali and Ill Conscious jump on the roster to deliver authentic rhyme schemes. “Can’t We Grow” is deeper and touches on deeper issues in society, featuring Piff {PCH} and a beautiful sample that takes you back in time. “Luxurious Fabric” closes off as the last of the main 14 joints with TriState and Banish Habitual also dropping verses over another amazing backdrop.

Track after track D.Mar worked with the best samples to enhance the soulful direction Supreme Cerebral was going for in terms of production. While the emcee’s trademark militant aura is ever present, he’s shown through a variety of projects that he can rap over different styles whether it be dark, cinematic or soulful, etc. Be on the lookout for upcoming visuals in the near future. In addition to the digital download, CD’s for Soul Trained are up for sale on Bandcamp, as well as limited hoodies and T-shirts. Bundle packages are also available.
