Uptown NYC emcees, Pearl Gates and Syll will be dropping the sequel to their 2016 EP Play This on Feb 28th via Below System Records (Eto, Trizz, Verbal Kent).  Today, we are premiering a new single from that project (which will be a full album) entitled “D.I.M.M.

Resplendent with acoustic guitar strums, washes of keys and soulful vocal loops, the duo wax about trying to stay true to your own voice.  As Pearl said of the song:

“D.I.M.M is an acronym for Diamonds In My Mind. The inspiration: this is a song about outside forces trying to sabotage your innermost thoughts. Trying to steer clear of being controlled by external pressures so that you can continue to find and be guided by your inner voice.”

“D.I.M.M.” will be available via all digital platforms tomorrow (Friday, February 21st).

Another single from the album “Kingz” previously dropped which features an appearance from West Coast lyricist, Blu and was laced by French Producer, C0rrado (who produced the entire first EP).  Speaking on the link-up with Blu, Gates said “I spent some time in Los Angeles working on some tracks for Blu & Exile and Blu reciprocated with a dope verse.”  It should be said that in addition to his prowess as an emcee, Pearl Gates is adept as a singer as well and has lent melodic hooks to tracks by Masta AceKool G Rap and eMC. Syll has also started to make a name as a song-writer for other artists as well as for his own solo work.

Other producers on Play this 2 will include Frankie P (A$AP Ferg, Meek Mill), SirplusEyeDee (Heem Stoogied, Ty Farris), DJ SoulclapJay Notez and Quincey Tones (who worked with Pearl Gates on his collaborative album with WordsworthChampion Sounds).
