One fun fact about me is I love basketball almost as much as I love hip hop. So when my big sis Indigo Phoenyx dropped off this joint by Detroit’s own Ketch P called “Kareem & Shaq“, I said, “Bet. Lemme peep this out”. Naming a track after the NBA all-time leading scorer with a cold ass hook shot, and probably the most dominant center of my childhood days, you better bring that heat.
Let me say that Ketch P definitely lived up to the title. The instrumental courtesy of Foul Mouth pulls you in as soon as the beat drops. And Ketch goes in and makes it clear that he’s out for blood with lines like:
“Now I got the urge to settle swinging my battle axe / To average cats that’s boom bap in my habitat / Me on that soft, huh? Imagine that? / See word to Reggie Noble cause I ain’t having that…”
With a very strong cadence and delivery, Ketch makes it short and simple with this one. I almost fell out my chair when he said, “Gut punch will make you curl up like a Jew fro…” Detroit has legendary history in hip hop from J Dilla, Elzhi (Slum Village), Eminem and Royce Da 5’9″. With bars like this on “Kareem & Shaq“, Ketch will definitely be in the runnings.
