Weekly Rap Gods heads North to Toronto for the world video premiere of “Washing Machine” from DNTE ft. FalconOutlaw (track produced by Pastor Wesley).
The track is from DNTE’s solo full-length project, Crystal Pianos which also dropped today via his own High Heat Records imprint. Many WRG readers probably know DNTE and FalconOutlaw’s work together as the duo, Falcon Crest (who releases include projects with producers Giallo Point & Camoflauge Monk).
A step-by-step instruction of how to launder those street funds into legal tender, the video show the duo suds-ing up in a laundromat replete with eye-candy and yak.
Apparently the street ish almost spilled over in the video shoot as DNTE relates “I was outside smoking a blunt and these two dudes ran up on me and pulled pistols out. We had money, liquor and our crew in the laundromat, the dudes were looking for someone else though and said ‘he’s not here, he’s not here!’ and just jumped in a getaway car.”
All grime-life aside on Crystal Pianos the emcee/producer is said he is aiming to split the difference between raw and elegance. As he says “I was raised a five percenter but I’ve done my time in the street and I’ve gotten money the legal way too. This album is about hustlin’ but it’s not the grimy kind of hustle, it’s more of the sophisticated hustlin’, the soul, reggae, samples and the appreciation kind of mind set to hip-hop.”
In addition to his own production on the album, he enlisted beats from such notables Statik Selektah, DirtyDiggs, TheRealSkitso as well as his long-time homie and legendary force in Toronto hip-hop DRKTheLegend (Maestro Fresh Wes, Dream Warriors). Besides include Billie Esco, Saipher Soze, Lord Juco and Wyze Wonda.
