Chi-town is no stranger to the boom bap we love. Hip Hop artist Philmore Green first got my attention with the song “Time Travel” featuring Big Pooh produced by Rashid Hadee. It was brought to us by noted DJ Scrap Dirty. The crew has been creating amazing music for quite some time now. This year they celebrated the 10 year anniversary of Rashid Hadee project titled Dedication. Today, Philmore has drops debut album Chicago: A Third World City!
We have all been privy to news reports or seen movies/TV shows about the adversity Chicago faces with ongoing gang violence, murders and crime. The public outcry for help has gone unanswered for quite some time . The people need alternatives to improve the conditions of their community. I definitely feel the content and concept behind this project. While Chicago has some great accomplishments, we can’t forget the turmoil within the inner cities synonymous to condition in third world countries. Philmore raps passionately about his hometown.
Rashid Hadee’s (also known as El Choppo) production is always A1 and never disappoints. The Chicago producer is underrated and should be aligned with some of the best producers in the industry. The sound is soulful and melodic with just the right vigor and drum kicks. Philmore and Rashid gel well on tracks. The duo create an alluring sound. Producer Neak also throws his hat in the ring on Track 6 on the project.
“Reaganomics”, “The Beautiful Picture 2”, “Tryna Get It”, and “Way Too Focused” are my favorites! “Sonlight” is an undisputed banger! We need more projects of this calibre that reflects the times we are living in and give us bars and beats that make a solid project. This is next level right here. This is a “no skip” project. I love it! These accounts of current events are heart-felt and can inspire change.
Chicago: A Third World City consists of 13 fire tracks which features FlyKelly, Slot-A, Peter Jericho and Yarbrough. The bar game is superior on each artist. Don’t take my word for it, Philmore Greene is an artist to watch out for. He’s going places. Listen for yourself and embark on a musical journey you won’t regret!
