Video Music Box Celebrates their 35th Anniversary

Video Music Box has been a major part of hip hop culture since it first aired in 1983! If you grew up in New York, VJ Ralph McDaniels and Lionel C Martin were the dopest guys on TV. I remember being so excited as a little girl to watch the videos, learn the dance moves, and try to imitate the fashion. Video Music Box played all the latest hip hop videos at a vital time when the culture was flourishing. Most of the rappers we know and love debuted on this show! Being a part of this platform as an artist was a major accomplishment. The longevity of the show was definitely based on a deep love and respect for Uncle Ralph and his dedication to this genre of music that was deemed a passing fad. He played quality hip hop and helped boost many artists’ careers.

This weekend on July 7th in Coney Island, Brooklyn, Video Music Box is celebrating its 35th Anniversary with special performances from some of your favorites like Brand Nubians, Fat Joe, MC Shan, Craig G , Large Professor, Special Ed, Nice n Smooth Das EFX, Lords of the Underground, M.O.P , Blahzay Blahzay, DJ Scratch, Chuck Chillout, and many more! If you are in the area, it’s a must you join the celebration!
