Statik Selektah’s Track with The LOX Takes Us Back to a Time Before Trap & Mumble Rap — “But You Don’t Hear Me Tho!” (Music)

The latest single from DJ Statik Selektah’s upcoming LP entitled “8” (Dropping December 8th) is a certified banger. Complete with a heavy baseline, horns, snare slap, hard rhyming courtesy of The LOX, and a chorus from the legendary Rhythm & Blues virtuoso, who brought you the classic “Juicy” track sampled for Biggie’s first single, Mtume.

The LOX, takes today’s audience, fixated on “molly, mask, money and mayhem”, back to the Golden Age of Hip Hop when, although there was an occasional mention of weed and drink, it wasn’t the only focus. Nor the intention of program directors to hijack the culture by force feeding sub-par talent down our throats with continuous song play ad nauseum.

There is no place in modern radio for this single because the new generation of rap fans won’t appreciate the walk-through down memory lane. This is however, what the writer calls “Adult Contemporary Hip-Hop”. And will reminisce through repeat to relish in the nostalgia.
