On the 29th of September, the Hip Hop world suddenly stopped!

With the release of Masta Killa’s 4th LP “Loyalty Is Royalty”, the rebirth of that gritty Wu-Tang sound, and the solidification of Masta Killa‘s prowess as an Emcee will be etched in the rap pantheon.

Weighing in at approximately 45 minutes and at 16 tracks, the listener is walked through the Beat Streets of Brooklyn aka “Medina”. And by no means does the long play disappoint.

Producer/DJ PF Cuttin’ makes a head nodding, neck breaking track that commands the respect of subwoofers worldwide on the lead off track, “Return of thee Masta Kill”. It sets the tone for what’s to come, as MK enlists the talents of Young Dudas and fellow Clansman, Cappadonna, who raps, “elevate / add-on /  meditate / transform /…” insinuating that the Wu is still about educating. However, if the “85’ers violate / blow they face out…”.

2 standout cuts that are sure to hold a special place in the hearts and minds of Hip Hoppers across the globe are “Down With Me” featuring the late Sean the Barbarian (Sean Price) who opens a murderous 16 with, “When I speak / the hell I speak lift the gauge”. Sean’s presence on the track will make you smile, as this is probably one of his last verses ever recorded, outside of his own “Imperius Rex” (Out Now). The bedrock which 9th Wonder provides, gives an eerie feel to Sean P’s bark, as his voice on the track will give you goosebumps knowing he is no longer with us. This track is Brooklyn’s new anthem as MK calls out “Brooklyn…down with me”,while shouting out prominent New York Deejay’s Funk Flex and Tony Toca “is down with me”. The hook being reminiscent of, and paying homage to KRS-One’s hook on the classic “I’m Still #1”.

The 2nd notable track, “Real People” featuring the late great legendary Prodigy and KXNG CROOKED, is a BQE and CALI rhyme-fest with Prodigy delivering haunting “war literature”, as if the verse was sent down from the heavens above. Producer Chainsaw shreds the track mercilessly, and brings out the best from each Emcee.

This LP is a sculpted masterpiece. MK’s 1st since 2012. In those 5 years, the God has kept his Wu-Tang weaponry sharp and polished. It’s the perfect prelude to the full Wu-Tang Clan LP, “The Saga Continues”(Available for Preorder) set to drop on October 13th.

Support good Hip Hop!
